The TRG – Hot Work Cutting and Welding awareness training course for safe cutting and welding on mine and petroleum sites, formerly known as MDG25. This course has been developed with reference to the Technical Reference Guide: Hot work (cutting and welding) at mines and petroleum sites (June 2021) produced by NSW Resources Regulator.


This technical reference guide applies to all mines and declared plant in NSW and should be used in all locations where Welding, Cutting and grinding is carried out. For example Production process plants, workshops, garages, hazardous areas, confined spaces, reclaim tunnels, and underground coal mines just to name a few.


Upon successful completion of this non-accredited training course, the participant will be issued with a Hot Work completion certificate that is valid for 2 years. The participant will receive a wallet card, that is able to be kept on hand along with other relevant workplace licences.

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 2 Hours

LLN (language literacy and numeracy) – A fundamental level of reading, writing, and the ability to communicate effectively in English are necessary to complete the coursework.
